In the second part of the roadtrip we left the west coast and went to the inland.

6. 1000 Palm Oasis and Joshua Tree National Park

On the way to the Joshua Tree National Park I can really recommend to stop at 1000 Palms Oasis (at Palm Springs on the Thousand Palms Canyon Road in northern direction). You will find amazing palms just in the middle of the desert.

The bizzare landscape with the typical trees of the Joshua Tree National Park are great. Who wants to do a hike I can recommend to go up the Ryan Mountain.

7. Tucson

The journey from the Joshua Tree National Park to Tuscon is a long but worthwhile. You should definately go to the Titan Missle Musuem (1580 W. Duval Mine Rd. Sahuarita, Arizona) to see the consequences of the cold war.

Another attraction are the different cacti parks e.g. the Saguaro National Park that are typical for the southern region. These Saguaros can grow several meteres…

8. Von Tucson nach Flagstaff

Flagstaff is the perfect city to stopover as there are several cheap motels. Otherwise there is not really much to see in Flagstaff so that you should plan a late arrival.

9. Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon is a probably a must see on each road trip. Comming from Flagstaff we entered the southern entrance of the park. In the main season the park is overcrowded but at least you can spend some hours to walk on a rim trail. If you want to go down and up you should plan the hike in advance as a overnight stay in the canyon is recommended.
